Corinthian were always looking to expand their portfolio of licenses and delve into other markets, so in 1997 they joined forces with sportswear brand PROSTAR to produce a range of AFL Australian Football League figures.

The entire collection consists of 48 different figures, according to the collectors information leaflet the range is split into 2 series, with series 1 consisting of AFL01-24 and series 2 also having 24 figures included.

​

 

Collector code wise it goes from AFL01 all the way to AFL052, however there are 4 figures which were not released, though there names did appear on the collectors information leaflet.

 

 

The 4 unreleased figures are:

AFL29 Richard Champion - Brisbane Lion -Home

AFL33 Gavin Brown - Collingwood - Home

AFL26 Jim Stynes - Melbourne - Home

AFL51 Paul Kelly - Sydney Swans - Home

As with any collection some figures are much harder to come by than others, from my own experiences with collecting these i have always found Glen Jakovich to be extremely rare, along with the likes of Modra, Rocca, Grant, Rehn and Hird.

 

 

I can offer no exact explanation as to why this is, i can only assume they were made in lower numbers, perhaps at the time of production they were rumoured to be leaving their respective clubs or were just not as popular a player as others in their team.

 

 

The figures were distributed in Australia by Playcorp, it is not often you see them for sale in the UK, so to acquire them my advice is to use Ebay Australia as they are frequently for sale on their.

 

 

The figures are on a Green oval base, as was the case with other non football figures, with each figure being assigned a collector code, which began with AFL, with them being released as single blister packs, coming with a collector card and collectors information leaflet.
