BAYERN MUNICH

Corinthian gave Bayern Munich the star treatment, creating 12 fantastic figures for the Star Kickers range of Headliners, 8 of which would never be released by Corinthian again.

This sculpt of Lothar Matthaus would feature in the ProStars range in German national kit in the Reseller Specials series, also in Inter Milan home kit as part of the World Culb Legends range, whilst an entirely new sculpt of him would be released in Inter Milan away kit, again as part of the World Club Legends series.

Markus Babbel would be released in the ProStars range for Liverpool, as part of the Xmas 2000/01 4 pack and in the Liverpool Treble Winners team pack and as a window box. Dietmar Hamann would also feature numerous times in the ProStars range for Liverpool, whilst legendary goal keeper Oliver Kahn would make 2 appearances as a ProStars, both times in German national kit, as part of the Club Gold 2002 set and also in the international Tournament Greats series.

The other 8 were never released by Corinthian again, those 8 being Giovane Elber, Thorsten Fink, Mehmet Scholl, Mario Basler, Thomas Helmer, Christian Nerlinger, Thomas Strunz and Alexander Zickler. Some top names amongst them, with Elber, Basler and Scholl being personal favourites of mine.

What stands out about the Bayern Munich set is that they were not released as single blisters, nor as a 4 pack, they were only done as a 12 figure team pack, which i can only assume was done so at the club's request. Such a pity we never had any single blisters as i do feel they would have been highly collectable.

Given the fact they were all only released in the same 12 pack then inherently none are rarer than any other, however there are those which are more sought after so command more money, which i have always found to be Kahn, Scholl, Basler and Elber, which you can mainly attribute to their popularity as players

 

​

The Bayern Munich 12 pack comes with all 12 figures, 12 collector cards and information file, it is a great pack which does appear fairly frequently for sale and is most certainly worth picking up.
