WIMBLEDON 1995/96

Wimbledon had 9 figures released as part of the FAPL Collection, all wearing the kit worn for the 1995/96 season.

A great set of figures and all 9 were first time sculpts with only Leonhardsen being released again, which was in the colours of his native Norway as part of the Norges Trop range of Headliners, for Liverpool later in the FAPL Collection and lastly for Spurs in the ProStars Club Gold range.

This set gave us the only ever sculpt of hardman movie star Vinnie Jones even his figure looked menacing! The figure of goalkeeper Hans Segers was also a little unnerving due to his unusual facial expression.

The sculpt of Efan Ekoku has always been a favourite of mine as it bore a real likeness to the player, as did the sculpt of Jamaican international Robbie Earle. Strikers Dean Holdsworth and Marcus Gayle get their only Corinthian release, both fine figures but very accessible, the same cannot be said for Alan Kimble.

Alan Kimble features in the Wimbledon 4 pack B (WD4B) which is a very rare 4 pack, he was also done as a single blister but i feel that is harder to come by than the 4 pack. Although Kimble is undoubtedly a rare figure, he does not command a vast deal of money, sits in along side the likes of perhaps Kevin Campbell for forest or Craig Short at Everton.

It is certainly worth mentioning that 2 of these figures were released with the same shirt number, those two figures are Andy Clarke and Oyvind Leonhardsen. The reason for this is that Clarke was released during the 95/96 season in January of 1996, whereas Leonhardsen was released in October 1996 during the 96/97 after his move to Wimbledon in the Summer, upon his arrival he took over the number 7 shirt from Clarke.

Many of these figures proved to be very elusive upon their release, due largely to the distribution of the figures which was kept to stockists close to the club and near London in general. In the early days Corinthian tended to keep distribution of the less well supported clubs to shops close to the area around the club, so you would not find many Wimbledon figures in Middlesboro and vice-versa, makes sense really.

Corinthian also released a Wimbledon 4 pack

WD4B - Robbie Earle, Oyvind Leonhardsen, Marcus Gayle & Alan Kimble

All figures were released as single blister packs, coming with collector card and collectors information file.
