BLACKBURN ROVERS 1995/96

Corinthian released 13 figures painted in the kit worn by Blackburn Rovers for the 1995/96 season. This is the side that had won the Premiership title the year previous and a side that was littered with talent. This set is easily identified by the kit sponsor, which for this season was McEwans Lager.

5 of these figures were released in the England national home kit around the same time as these figures were released. Those 5 figures were Alan Shearer, Tim Flowers, Graeme Le Saux, David Batty and Tim Sherwood' The paint job done on the Flowers figure was great and featured him in a yellow jersey with bright orange stripe across it.

During this time Blackburn Rovers had the infamous SAS' partnership up front of Shearer and Sutton, and you could have it yourself as Chris Sutton was released for the very first time and a fine sculpt he is too, with all future release of Sutton used this sculpt.

This set also featured a first time sculpt and one which has never been released again, this figure was that of Mike Newell. Newell has the honour of scoring the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history, it took him just 9 minutes to score the 3 goals in a game against Rosenborg. This figure is certainly the rarest of the figures from this set, with a blister version of him being very hard to locate, the same can be said for Jason Wilcox and Kevin Gallacher, both can prove very eslusive!

The following 6 figures were all first time sculpts and all were released in the 1996/97 set of Blackburn Rovers figures too, the figures are Colin Hendry, Stuart Ripley, Paul Warhurst, Jason Wilcox, Jeff Kenna and Kevin Gallacher. Jason Wilcox would make another appearance but not until ProStars series 8 for Leeds United and he would be joinded by Kevin Gallacher in that series, the other 4 were never released again by Corinthian.

It seems very strange that Corinthian neglected to release a 12 player pack for this set of figures, as all were released very closely to each other, a great pack that would have been too.

A 4 pack was released however which contains Shearer, Flowers, Sutton and Hendry. All single blisters came with collectors card and collectors information file.
